Living with Intent: Do Something Solo
It’s a week late, but happy SUMMER SOLSTICE! Thank Goddess for the Sun and it’s healing powers. It’s time to get out and enjoy the sunshine and warmer weather. While you’re out, spend some time solo. Carve out time to reflect; to prepare for what’s to come, and give thanks for what’s already passed.
Speaking of spending time solo, it’s something I’ve had to learn to enjoy. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a partner in crime. Whether it’s been my brother, best friend, or eventually my husband and kids, I’ve always had someone else to navigate life with. And even then, I had to make sure taking time to recharge was part of my daily agenda. I get grumpy and downright bitchy when I go too long with solo time, so taking those moments away from the pack are essential. These moments alone don’t require me to do anything spectacular — simply being is enough.
Over the years I realized that I’ve learned more about myself by myself than I ever did surrounded by those closest to me. If you’ve if listened to the podcast, you know how close my family is. From family gatherings to simple things like watching a movie or to reminiscing about old times, we’re always together. It wasn’t until I committed to *really* spending time alone that I understood its importance to my growth, as a woman, a mom, a partner, a person. I’ve grown more comfortable in my skin, learned new hobbies, and found out that being alone doesn’t equate lonliness. Perhaps more importantly, I’ve learned that the mother of all self-care is time spent solo.
